- Why
Kid Castle? - Practical Support
You're probably thinking, "Gosh. Taiwan is
awfully far away. Who is there for me?" The answer is we are,
the Kid Castle Foreign
Personnel Department (or FPD as we like to call ourselves).
Collectively, we have over fifteen years' experience living and
teaching in Taiwan so we know just what you will be going through.
We will be your guides for your year with Kid
Castle - from your airport pickup and first week's introductory
training and orientation to making sure your teaching and life are
going well up to your final day. This includes regular phone calls
to check up on you as well as a more formal schedule of class observations
after you have been teaching for one, three, and six months.
Settling into a new culture takes time and everyone
gets homesick. There seems to be a very pronounced sine wave kind
of biorhythm amongst foreigners living in Taiwan, with the highs
and lows being more extreme than that we are used to in the West.
During these times it is nice to have someone to talk to, especially
when international phone calls are not cheap.
When you need to speak to someone, you will find
the FPD here for you. We have been through most of the things that
you might experience and can share our experiences with you. Often
we can provide advice that will help a situation and point you in
the right direction.
This is not to say that we will or even be able
to hold your hand all the time. Part of the fun and challenge of
coming to a new culture is to discover new things, trying to communicate
without speaking Chinese and so on. Our goal therefore, is to provide
you with support when you need it, leaving you alone to discover
and grow when you don't.
