- Why
Kid Castle? - Salary & Benefits
Kid Castle teachers are paid a monthly salary.
The salary is competitive and especially progressive in that our
teachers are compensated for their preparation/office time. The
amount of salary depends on experience, qualifications and on the
individual branch. A list of the current vacancies and the salary
can be found on our Vacancies
section.
Many programs pay teachers only for the time they
spend teaching in the classroom. Therefore, if a teacher has to
prepare lessons, grade homework, do telephone tests, etc., they
will have to do so on their own time. This is not the case at Kid
Castle. We recognize the importance of preparing for lessons and
this is reflected in how we compensate our teachers.
Some other benefits include:
Time Friendly Scheduling - At Kid Castle,
our teachers teach have at least one day off a week, (five days
per week in Taiwan) and not in split shifts. This means you will
only teach morning and afternoon shifts or afternoon and evening,
but not morning and evening. We feel that in order to experience
life in Taiwan or China outside the classroom, teachers should not
have to spend all their time inside the classroom. Having said that,
if a teacher wants to supplement his or her income, they can add
extra hours to their base schedule and be paid hourly for the extra
work done.
National Health Insurance (NHI) (Taiwan)
- Kid Castle teachers are enrolled in Taiwan's excellent, comprehensive
NHI program. For a flat fee (of around NT$150), you can see a doctor,
dentist or specialist, receive consultation and medicine. There
is a nominal monthly charge (of about NT$300) that is deducted directly
from your salary.
Health insurance (China) As yet there is
no national health insurance in China, so FTs and the schools share
the cost 40/60 for a year's coverage through Manulife-Sinochem,
a Canadian-Chinese joint venture. This works out to be approximately
RMB400 for the FT per year.
Alien Resident Certificate (Taiwan) / Foreign
Expert Certificate (China) - This ID card is what is affectionately
known as the ARC in Taiwan and the FEC in China. At Kid Castle,
we sponsor our teachers for work permits, resident visas, and ARC/FECs.
All you have to do is cover the application costs; we will take
care of the rest. In case you were wondering, the certificate is
the brass ring. It permits a foreigner to legally work and travel,
as well as buy a motorcycle (in Taiwan) and open a bank account.
They can be viewed as one's foreign ID. It documents your employer
information (your employer represents a local, or native sponsor,
i.e. your branch director), your passport information, your local
address and a photo. Once you have this ID, you no longer need to
carry around your passport. This is perhaps the most important identification
you can wield in any confrontation with authority. Without it, there
can be no discussion of your rights, as officially you cannot work,
ride or get paid without it. In an instance where one is caught
illegally working or riding etc., the penalties can be expensive,
short of outright deportation.
Paying taxes - Whoa! Hold on a second.
How can paying taxes be a benefit? Well, in part it means that you
are a qualified employee and a legal, temporary alien resident of
Taiwan or China. You will not experience any of the hassles that
accompany illegal employment: dodgy schools that grant student visas,
expensive flights to Hong Kong once every month or two, the foreign
affairs police, etc.
Curriculum - Kid Castle is constantly developing
exciting new curricula for its different teaching programs. The
Way to Go, Big Steps, Happy Chat, Kids Talk and Kids Speak series
are not only eye-catching and fun, they provide useful English for
the young EFL learner. Teaching guides, props, and CDs help teachers
make the most of each lesson.
Variety of employment options - Kid Castle
is an established franchise system with over 200 branches throughout
Taiwan and China. We do our best to match teachers to whatever area
or work environment they prefer be it a small school in a rural
locale or a large branch in an urban center.
Housing Assistance - We help our teachers
find accommodation close to where they teach and provide a temporary
place to stay in the interim.
