Description - Curriculum
The
Kid Castle curriculum is well established in the form of texts and
lesson aids for all its programs. While our teachers do not have
to bring their own materials to Kid Castle, they would do well to
bring along some ideas and creativity.
We supply teacher's books that present lesson outlines and suggest
activities to practice the lesson's objectives, but only the teacher
knows what works best for his or her individual class. This knowledge
can be more valuable than what one could glean from any book.
In both the language school and preschool, the focus of our curriculum
is on spoken rather than written English. Students start with the
ABCs and progress on to more advanced conversation and grammar patterns
during their time with us. Naturally, the curriculum is tailored
to suit the age of the students. This can be seen in the accompanying
examples of pages from our textbooks.
For a preschool class, the foreign teacher will often teach the
students a letter or two from the alphabet, a corresponding vocabulary
word and some basic conversation patterns. Because the students
in this program are younger, the games and activities we employ
to practice the lesson's material are easy to understand and play.
Our goal is to give the students a solid base in English, so review
is an important and ongoing facet to our program.
At Kid Castle preschools, we teach a variety of
subjects to the students in addition to English. These include Chinese,
math, science, PE, music, art and computers. A foreign teacher can
expect to teach more than just English, but, don't panic, you will
not have to teach Chinese.
For a language school class, the foreign teacher's
main objective is to strengthen the students' English speaking
and listening skills. Conversations and dialogues form the
crux of these lessons, but the teacher may also instruct the students
in grammar, phonics and writing. Although the students in our language
school program are older than preschool students, games, activities
and review are still important aspects to the lesson.
In both systems our mascot, Chevady will be found
as well as a host of other characters. To the right is Kimberly
from our Happy Chat series.
No matter what level of students or from what text you are teaching,
the Kid Castle curriculum gives you the freedom to present and practice
the material as you see fit.
